Why you'd want to
Parallel Claude Code sessions are mostly useful when you have a batch of independent tasks that don't need to share a mental thread — things like “add test coverage to these six files,” “rename this variable across the repo,” or “update imports in each package.”
One agent working serially on ten small tasks takes ten agent-hours. Ten agents working in parallel on ten small tasks takes roughly one agent-hour plus some coordination overhead. That's the prize.
The cost is keeping them from colliding — on the same files, the same working directory, the same git branch, the same rate limit.
Approach 1 — Raw claude CLI + tmux + worktrees
The bare-metal approach. You already have Claude Code installed. You create a git worktree per task, open a tmux pane for each, and invoke the claude CLI in each pane.
Rough setup:
1. git worktree add ../task-1 -b task-1 for each concurrent task.
2. tmux new-session -s agents, then split a pane per worktree.
3. cd ../task-N && claude "<your prompt here>" in each.
4. Watch. Merge the good ones. Delete the rest.
What you get: full control. Zero dependencies beyond the things you already have.
What you don't get: any coordination. No shared view of which tasks are done. No retries. No rate-limit handling. No concept of “the sprint” — only “these eight processes I started by hand.”
Best for: one-off batches of obviously-independent tasks you'll manually review in an hour.
Approach 2 — Claude Code Agent Teams (experimental)
Claude Code ships a native multi-agent feature called Agent Teams. It's been around since late 2025 and is enabled via an environment flag. The idea is that one “leader” agent coordinates a small team of “worker” agents running in parallel.
What you get: it's native, so it understands Claude's context and tool use natively. No extra software to install if you already have Claude Code.
What you don't get: it's still experimental — the official docs call out that it can add coordination overhead and use significantly more tokens than a single session. There's no UI layer beyond the CLI output, no Kanban, no persistent view of sprint state. And it's Claude-only.
Best for: Claude-loyal developers who are comfortable living in the terminal and want to stick with Anthropic's stack end-to-end.
Approach 3 — DevboardAI
A local-first Mac app that sits on top of the agent CLIs you already have. You describe what you want, it generates a sprint, and the orchestrator runs parallel sessions against git worktrees — each one a card on a Kanban board.
What you get: a Kanban UI for the sessions, auto-retry with QA feedback when a task fails, model routing across Claude / Codex / Kimi per task, and a full run history for every attempt. Setup is install the DMG, point it at your repo, type your brief.
What you don't get: it's Mac-only. It's a paid product — $74 once. And because it orchestrates CLIs you're responsible for keeping installed, a breaking change in Claude Code or Codex can briefly require an update on your side.
Best for: developers with a real backlog who want to describe a sprint, walk away, and come back to code — without gluing together tmux scripts or writing YAML.

Which one to pick
If you parallelize once a quarter: use tmux. The setup pain is fine for how often you hit it.
If you want to stay pure-Claude and live in the terminal: try Agent Teams. It's experimental but it's real and it'll only get better.
If you're doing this weekly and you want the state of the sprint in one view: that's DevboardAI's lane. The $74 stops mattering the second you realize you've stopped gluing scripts together.
